Snotrockets Into Thin Air
Can I just say right now that I hate Coors Field. Okay? Okay. On with the snotrocket show.
Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Friday, May 17, 2013 on the road vs. the Colorado Rockies:
- L, 4.2 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR (GS), 15 SNR (snotrockets): 3 vs. L, 8 vs. R, 4 other.
- Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 5th in which he blew 5 snotrockets.
Bumgarner’s next start should be Wednesday, May 22 at home vs. the Washington Nationals. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
Oh yes I almost forgot: fuck you Dinger.
Double Blow Snotrockets
I’ve been tallying Madison Bumgarner’s snotrockets for a couple of years now and in his start against the Braves last Saturday I saw something I’ve never seen before. Bumgarner blew a snotrocket once and then immediately blew a second snotrocket from the same nostril. This was unprecedented. I’ve tallied many a double snotrocket blown by Bumgarner (a double snotrocket is one that is blown first from one nostril then the other) but never two from the same nostril. You tune in to a ballgame, you never know what you might see.
Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Saturday, May 11, 2013 at home vs. the Atlanta Braves:
- W, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 0 HR, 8 SNR (snotrockets): 3 vs. lefties, 2 vs. righties, 3 other. 1 at-bat and 1 double blow SNR.
- Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 6th in which he blew 3 snotrockets.
Let Saturday, May 11, 2013 henceforth be known as the debut of the Madison Bumgarner double blow snotrocket. We are not worthy.
Bumgarner’s next start should be Wednesday, May 22, at home vs. the Washington Nationals. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
One Loss And Many Snotrockets
Madison Bumgarner picked up his first loss of the 2013 season last night. Not his best game, pitching-wise, but a pretty good game snotrocket-wise.
Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Monday, May 6, 2013 at home vs. the Philadelphia Phillies:
- L, 6.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR, 10 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 1 vs. righties, 7 other. 1 pre-game and 1 dugout SNR.
- Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 2nd in which he blew 3 snotrockets.
Bumgarner’s next start should be this Saturday, May 11 in San Francisco vs. the Atlanta Braves. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
Accurate Snotrockets
Poor Madison Bumgarner. He pitched extremely well (again) but got a no decision tonight. The Giants did pull out a win in the 9th inning though, thanks to Pablo Sandoval’s non-fat 2 run homer, and beat the DBacks 2-1. So all is well.
Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for Tuesday, April 30, 2013 on the road vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks:
- ND, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2, K, 0 HR, 11 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 3 other.
- Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 4th in which he blew 4 snotrockets.
Above all I strive to be as accurate as possible when tallying Bumgarner’s snotrockets. Sometimes it’s difficult to determine if what Bumgarner’s doing out on the mound is actually blowing a snotrocket or something else. Usually that happens when the camera angle is from centerfield; Bumgarner’s on the mound, his back is to the camera and occasionally it’s hard to tell what’s going on out there. Is it a snotrocket? Is he blowing into his hand? Or is it something else? After going over the footage of a questionable snotrocket in the third inning many times I posted this on Twitter:
Accuracy is all important when tallying Bumgarner’s snotrockets. Without it where would we be? In a world of snotrocket confusion. No thank you. I need snotrocket clarity in my life. We all do.
Madison Bumgarner’s next start should be Monday, May 6, at home vs. the Philadelphia Phillies. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
Friday Night Snotrockets And A Walk-Off Win Too
Madison Bumgarner pitched very well tonight against the San Diego Padres but didn’t get a lot of run support so he ended up with a no-decision. He did, however, get a lot of snotrockets out there in the atmosphere so it was a win, snotrocket-wise. Oh yeah, it was win overall because the San Francisco Giants beat the Padres , 3-2, in walk-off fashion despite what Damon Bruce says:
Not so fast there, Mr. Bruce. From The Online Dictionary:
walk’-off a. 1. (Baseball) Game-ending and game-winning; such as to end the game immediately, and allow the players to walk off the field; – of hits [my italics], especially home runs, which occur in the last half of the ninth or a later inning, which put the home team ahead of the visiting team and thereby end the game immediatey [sic].
So…yeah. No disrespect meant Mr. Bruce but I’m calling it a walk-off. WALK-OFF WIN FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS TONIGHT.
But on to more important matters. Here are Madison Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals for Friday, April 19, 2013, at home vs. the San Diego Padres:
- ND, 13 SNR (snotrockets): 2 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 5 other. 1 double SNR.
- Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific innings were the 4th and 6th in which he had 4 snotrockets per inning.
- Other Madison Bumgarner fun snotrocket facts: he had at least 1 SNR in every inning he pitched tonight.
Bumgarner’s next outing should be Wednesday, April 24, at home vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks (12:45 PM start). See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
Not Snow But Snotrockets
Madison Bumgarner’s third start of the 2013 season was scheduled for today in Chicago vs. the Cubs. When I checked Twitter this morning one of the San Francisco Giants beat writers mentioned that snow was falling in Chicago. I was worried that snow might preempt snotrockets but fortunately that didn’t happen. Wrigley Field stayed relatively flurry-free and the snotrockets flowed like, well, snotrockets.
Here are Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics from today, April 13, 2013, on the road vs. the Chicago Cubs:
- W, 6.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 14 SNR (snotrockets): 1 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 7 other. 1 on-base and 1 at-bat SNR.
- Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific innings were the 2nd and 6th in which he blew 4 snotrockets per inning.
- Today’s game saw the first Madison Bumgarner on-base snotrocket of the 2013 season.
Bumgarner’s next start should be at home in San Francisco next Friday, April 19 vs. the San Diego Padres. See you here or on Twitter for all the snotrocket action you can handle.
Home Field Snotrockets
Madison Bumgarner’s first home start of 2013 wasn’t as dazzling as his outing in Los Angeles vs. the Dodgers last week but hey, a win’s a win, right? Also, he only went 5.2 innings against the Rockies so as you would guess a short outing = fewer snotrockets.
Here are Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics from his start on Monday, April 8, 2013 vs. the Colorado Rockies at home in San Francisco:
- W, 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 9 SNR (snotrockets): 1 vs. lefties, 6 vs. righties, 2 other. 1 double.
- Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 2nd in which he blew 3 snotrockets.
Once again @SanDiegoGiants on Twitter has captured Bumgarner in all his snotrocket glory and provided some excellent snotrocket screencaps from the game. Here’s MadBum performing the double snotrocket (first one nostril and then the other):
Bumgarner’s next start should be this Saturday April 13, on the road vs. the Chicago Cubs. See you here or on Twitter for all the exciting snotrocket action.
Goodbye Zombies, Hello Snotrockets
The third season of “The Walking Dead” has drawn to a close. And while I was not thrilled with the season finale (too subdued for my taste, although Andrea dying was a plus) I mourned the loss of my weekly zombie fix. No more zombies until October? No more Daryl Dixon and his mighty crossbow until this fall? Oh no what to do? Wait, it’s April. Oh yes, baseball! San Francisco Giants! Madison Bumgarner! Snotrockets! I am saved.
Yes, zombie season has ended and baseball season has begun. Madison Bumgarner started the second game of the 2013 season for the Giants, on the road versus the hated Los Angeles Dodgers. Bumgarner got the win and he pitched a beaut. What’s more, his snotrocketry continues to dazzle and delight if not everyone then at least me.
Here are Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals and other vital statistics for April 2, 2013, on the road, vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers:
- W, 8.0 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 0 HR, 17 SNR (snotrockets): 7 vs. righties, 1 vs. lefties, 9 other. 1 at-bat and 1 double SNR.
- Madison Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 8th in which he blew 6 snotrockets.
Thanks to one of my fellow Giants fans on Twitter, @SanDiegoGiants, for screencapping Bumgarner’s first (televised) snotrocket of the 2013 season:
Also from @SanDiegoGiants, a bonus Bumgarner pic from the same game:
Bumgarner had seventeen snotrockets in his first start of the season. He sets a high bar. His next start should be Monday, April 8 at home vs. the Colorado Rockies. See you here or on Twitter (I live-tweet all the exciting Bumgarner snotrocket action you can handle. Username: @Fawn_Liebowitz ).
2012 Postseason Snotrockets
Madison Bumgarner is 23 years old and has 2 World Series Championship rings. Sounds about right.
Here are Bumgarner’s SNR (snotrocket) totals for the 2012 postseason:
2012 National League Division Series (vs. Cincinnati Reds):
- 4.1 IP, 6 SNR ― 2 vs. lefties, 1 vs. righties, 3 other. 2 pre-game and 1 double SNR.
- Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 1st in which he blew 3 snotrockets.
2012 National League Championship Series (vs. St. Louis Cardinals):
- 3.2 IP, 7 SNR ― 0 vs. lefties, 5 vs. righties, 2 other. 1 pre-game, 1 at-bat and 2 double SNR.
- Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 2nd in which he blew 4 snotrockets.
2012 World Series (vs. Detroit Tigers):
- 7.0 IP, 4 SNR ― 0 vs. lefties, 3 vs. righties, 1 other. 1 pre-game SNR.
- Bumgarner’s most prolific inning was the 7th in which he blew 2 snotrockets.
The NLDS was broadcast on TBS and the NLCS and World Series were both broadcast on Fox. This probably affected Bumgarner’s snotrocket totals somewhat as both stations have even more questionable camera work than CSN Bay Area, which broadcasts most of the San Francisco Giants regular season games. TBS and Fox cameras focused too much on the batter’s box and the dugouts (where terribly long in-game interviews with various players and coaches were conducted). CSN Bay Area cameras often seem more interested in what funny hats the fans in the stands are wearing than what’s going on down on the field.
See you here next year for more exciting snotrocket action.
